AWKA — GOVERNOR Peter Obi of Anambra State has denied rumours that he was planning to dump his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), saying that he would only leave the party if he was through with partisan politics.

Addressing members of the party at the party’s secretariat in Awka at the weekend, Obi said it does not matter even if APGA failed to allow him run for a second term under its platform, adding that as a committed party man, he would do what the leadership of the party says.

“In my kind of politics, I am concerned with doing things the right way. Based on that, I believe that the party is supreme. There had been rumours that I might defect to another party and I want to say that I would only leave APGA when I leave politics.

I am not in this business to be jumping from one place to the other. I will contest election (in 2010) if APGA, through due process, decides that I would contest, otherwise whatever they do, I will support as a committed party member.

“Again, any day APGA leadership decides that it is no longer satisfied with my government, I will resign within 24 hours. The party brought me into power and if the party is no longer interested in that government, I will have no option than to responsibly leave and support whoever the party chooses. The party is not Peter Obi. The party is all of you and all of you are greater than one person called Peter Obi.

“However, when the time comes and it is me that will be given the chance to run, I assure you that I will win. In the first election, we ran from outside and won and this time, we will run from inside and nothing will stop us.”
